Hurray for 2018, year of the Brown Earth Dog!

Hi there! Did you know it’s really NOT new year yet?

If you follow the Gregorian Calendar, obviously, it IS the new year as of January 1st. But if you follow a lunar calendar (one based in Nature, like the Chinese calendar), you know the new year starts when Nature begins her cycle anew!

February 16th is the Chinese New Year in 2018, the year of the Brown Earth Dog. It’s a year of earthly, practical concerns with the energy of Dog. Dog is loyal, with a deep moral sense and passion for defending justice and clan. Dog is good medicine in native circles as well, the servant to higher principles of family, tribe or community.

The community of women (and a few good men) that I have cultivated over the years is one that cares for the Earth and humanity, for the good of All Creation. My clients, students and audience tend to be awesome people that want to support the evolution of our species. That makes us pretty valuable in the scheme of things!

But if we don’t ACT now, where will we evolve TO? We have an opportunity in THIS YEAR that we haven’t seen since 1958, the last year of the Brown Earth Dog.

In 1958, the world was on the threshold of a revolution in consciousness.

We saw in popular culture that there was a shake up coming. Leaders of pop culture change such as Michael Jackson, Prince, and Madonna were all born in the Great Lakes region within 2 months of each other in 1958. Elvis, “the bad boy from the Ed Sullivan show”, joined the army in order to serve in 1958. And pop culture saw that pillars of institution in society revealed a shadow side.

For example:

  • The United States Air Force lost a 7,600-pound (3,400 kg) Mark 15 nuclear bomb in the waters off Tybee Island near Savannah, Georgia, United States. It has never been recovered.
  • Alabama tried to ban a children’s book, The Rabbits’ Wedding, about a white bunny marrying a black bunny, claiming it promoted mixed-race marriage. The author/artist, Garth Montgomery Williams, was surprised, since he’d made the bunnies black and white to look better in the illustrations.
  • Walt Disney produced a nature documentary titled “White Wilderness”, which featured a segment on lemmings, detailing their tendencies to commit mass suicide. Lemmings do not commit mass suicide, Disney pushed them off cliffs to create the scene.

Sounding familiar? We are in the midst of such a shift right now.

In the work I’ve done for 20 years, I see the Shadow side of humanity on a regular basis, and it is a natural, normal part of psyche. It is only when we try to suppress and/or deny the Shadow that it becomes a monster of epic proportions. This is the current healing crisis that has been building in our world.

There is NO accident that we have passed through the eye of the needle with our eyes forced open, seeing the worst that human beings can do to one another. Why? So we can change it.

The popular dog name, Fido, which means “faithful one”, refers to a real dog in France during WWII that waited for his deceased master every day for 14 years (5,000 times) until his own death in 1958. Do you see the synergy of this Brown Earth Dog year? We are back in a moment of culture and evolutionary advancement that can decide the future.

This is why I have devoted myself entirely to cultivating midwives of the new Earth in the Daughters of Earth Program. Learn more HERE.
